What is Lexbox?
Lexbox is the online service that stores your team's projects. FieldWorks Lite logs in to it and syncs with it for you, so your everyday dictionary work happens entirely in the app. The Lexbox website is there for things like managing who is on a project.
Do I need a Lexbox account?
Not to try the app: choose Create Example Project to practice on a small dictionary that stays on your device. To open a real project you need a Lexbox account, and your project manager has to add you to the project.
Does FieldWorks Lite replace FieldWorks Classic?
No. It is a companion to FieldWorks Classic (the FieldWorks desktop program, also called FLEx). Think of it as an easier way to do everyday dictionary work, especially away from your desk. FieldWorks Classic is still the place for everything else in your project, and it has its own help and documentation.
What can I work on in FieldWorks Lite?
The dictionary: words, meanings, definitions, example sentences, and the pictures and sound files that go with them. Other parts of a FieldWorks Classic project are not shown, and some dictionary fields, such as custom fields, aren't shown yet.
Which devices can I use it on?
Windows and Linux computers, and Android phones and tablets (from Google Play). It is the same app on every device. There is no iPhone or iPad version yet.
A Mac version is available for people who want to try it early. It doesn't update itself
yet, and it is less tested than the other versions. To try it, download
FieldWorksLite.dmg from the Assets of the
latest FieldWorks Lite release on GitHub.
Is my work safe if my phone or computer breaks?
Anything that has reached Lexbox is safe. You can install FieldWorks Lite on a new device, log in and download the project again. Changes that are still only on a broken device can't be recovered, so open the app while you are online now and then, and check that Synchronize says Up to date.
How do I remove a project from my device?
In the project list, right-click the project (on a phone or tablet, press and hold it) and choose Delete. This removes only the copy on this device. The project stays on Lexbox and you can download it again. Changes that haven't synced yet are lost, so first check that Synchronize says Up to date.
I forgot my password
FieldWorks Lite uses your Lexbox password. Choose Forgot your password? on the lexbox.org login page (more).
How do I report a problem or ask for help?
Inside a project, open Help & More in the sidebar, then Feedback & Support. On the home screen, it's in the ⋮ menu at the top right. From there you can choose Get support to ask on the community forum, Make a suggestion, Report a technical problem, or Send us a message to email lexbox_support@groups.sil.org. Telling us what device you were using and what you were doing at the time helps a lot.
Is FieldWorks Lite finished?
Not yet. It is still being developed, and new things arrive regularly. If you hit a problem with a project, please say that you are using FieldWorks Lite when you contact support.
