Getting started
This page takes you from nothing installed to your first edit.
1. Install the app
Go to lexbox.org/fw-lite and choose the download for your device. On a phone or tablet, install it the same way you install any other app.
2. Try it first, or sign in
You do not need an account to look around. On the home screen, choose Create Example Project. This makes a small practice dictionary on your device. Nothing you do in it touches anyone else's work.
To work on a real project, choose Login and sign in with your Lexbox account. Your projects on the server then appear in the list.
3. Download your project
Find your project in the list and choose Download. FieldWorks Lite copies the dictionary onto your device. This can take a while the first time on a large project.
After that, the project stays on your device, so you can work without an internet connection.
4. Open it and edit an entry
Tap the project in the list to open it. Go to Browse to see the entries, pick one, and change a field. To add a word, use New Word.
A walk-through of the entry editor, with pictures.
5. Your changes sync on their own
You do not have to save your work to the server by hand. FieldWorks Lite sends your changes to Lexbox and picks up other people's changes whenever it can reach the server.
See How sync works for what happens to your changes, what to expect when you are offline, and how FieldWorks Classic fits in.
