Use FieldWorks Lite with your project
FieldWorks Lite is a companion app for the dictionary part of a FieldWorks project: fast, simple, and it runs on phones, tablets and computers. Team members who only do dictionary work — and would never open FieldWorks itself — can work in FieldWorks Lite while the rest of the team keeps using FieldWorks and Send/Receive.
This page is for the project manager who sets that up. The app itself is covered in the FieldWorks Lite user guide.
Turn it on for your project
On your project's page on lexbox.org, choose Try FieldWorks Lite?. Lexbox prepares a FieldWorks Lite copy of your project; the first time can take a few minutes on a large project. Afterwards the project carries a Using FieldWorks Lite badge, and your team can install the app and download the project.
FieldWorks Lite support is still in beta. If you don't see the button, a project manager can request early access on the Where is my project? page.
Keep the two sides in step
Your project now lives in Lexbox in two copies: one for FieldWorks Lite, one for FieldWorks Send/Receive. The Sync FieldWorks Lite button on the project page merges the two. The Sync button in the app (under Synchronize, on the Lexbox tab) is the same button in a different place — pressing either does exactly the same thing. It only runs when someone presses it, so make it part of the team's rhythm:
- FieldWorks users Send/Receive as usual.
- Someone presses Sync FieldWorks Lite (or Sync in the app).
- FieldWorks users Send/Receive again to pick up the FieldWorks Lite work.
FieldWorks Lite users don't do anything — the app syncs with Lexbox on its own. To see the whole journey of an edit, step through How sync works.
